Debian Installation (lenny)

Der Debian-Installer verwendet einen 2.6.20er-Kernel, somit ist das erste Installieren kein Problem: 

file://afs/kip/software/Linux/debian/lenny/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso

Aber nach der Installation kann das System nicht starten, da der installierte Standardkernel ein 2.6.18er ist.

Lösung: Entweder einen Kernel ab Version 2.6.20er von unstable installieren oder einfach diesen hier:

Ubuntu Installation (Feisty Fawn)

Der Installer kann nur das CD/DVD-RW nicht lesen, nach der Installation schein dies aber mit dem Standardkernel zu funktionieren.

Folglich ist die einfachste Lösung, temporär ein externes CD-ROM zum installieren zu verwenden (Kann bei der EDV-Abteilung ausgeliehen werden.)


Grafiktreiber (Dualhead)

Laut lspci ist in dem PC eine eine 'ATI Technologies Inc RS482 [Radeon Xpress 200]'. Der proprietäre Grafiktreiber von ATI erlaubt Hardwarebeschleunigung für 3D Grafiken und auch den Betrieb von zwei Monitoren gleichzeitig (dualhead).

Die Treiber und die xorg-Konfigurationen gibt es im KIP-AFS:

Nach der Installation des Treibers einfach die /etc/X11/xorg.conf anpassen und solange rumprobieren bis es passt Smiley004.png.

(Wenn das Konfigurations-tool von ATI nicht beim Aufruf stirbt, könnte es auch helfen: 

aticonfig --initial=dual-head --screen-layout=left -i xorg.conf -o xorg.conf_ati
